Frequently Asked Questions
From Our Clients:
Q. How is this different from "paper scrip" and "gift cards"?
- Electronic scrip is a reward earned when a shopping card is used at checkout. Supporters
link their card to a School or Non-Profit and then use the card when making their purchase.
Mostly, the card is linked one-time and can be redirected to another organization at any
time. Paper scrip and gift cards involve a purchase of a certificate or card, which can be
used like cash at the selected merchant. The organization selling the scrip purchases the
certificate at a discount and earns a profit (2-10%) when selling the certificate to the
supporter at full price. Scrip and gift card orders are placed weekly or monthly with the
School or organization responsible for collecting orders, requesting certificates from
merchants, distributing to supporters and keeping accounting records for deposits.
Q. Which stores participate in Merchant Rebates?
- In California, Safeway, Pavilions and Vons participate through eScrip ("electronic Scrip
Incorporated). Ralphs, Food 4 Less and Albertsons offer fundraising programs, too. Sav-
On stores were purchased by CVS and do not participate in a Merchant Rebate program.
Many large retailers including Macy's, Bristol Farms, Claim Jumper, Eddie Bauer, Carrows
and Coco's also participate in eScrip, when the supporter uses an enrolled credit or debit
card. Retailers including Costco, Stater Brothers and Trader Joes do not currently offer a
Merchant Rebate fundraiser.
Q. How do Schools and Non-Profits receive the Rebates?
- Schools and Non-Profits apply for a Fundraising account with each Merchant. Most
programs require a taxpayer ID or letter from the Internal Revenue Service confirming 501c3
status. Once accounts are approved, organizations can begin linking cards to their
accounts. Rewards are generally paid quarterly with disbursement directly to the qualifying
organization.
